Scuba Diving, What?
Welcome to Scuba Diving Images, where we have the coolest scuba diving photos, pictures and videos, as well as underwater diving news, views, tips and tricks, and scuba equipment and accessory reviews.
Scuba diving is the act of swimming underwater while using self-contained breathing apparatus.
By carrying a source of compressed air, the scuba diver is able to stay underwater longer than with the simple breath-holding techniques used in snorkeling and free-diving, and is not hindered by air-lines to a remote air source.
The scuba diver typically swims underwater by using fins attached to the feet. However, some divers also move around with the assistance of a DPV (Diver Propulsion Vehicle), commonly referred to as a “scooter”, or by using surface-tethered devices called sleds, which are pulled by a boat.
Amateur, sports, recreational, commercial and professional scuba divers all use the same basic techniques and equipment, albeit for different purposes, such as cave diving, wreck diving, ice diving, deep diving, civil engineering tasks (including oil exploration, underwater welding or offshore construction), naval diving, salvage, spear fishing, military diving, police diving, rescue diving, underwater photography and filming and scientific diving (such as marine biology and underwater archaeology).
Of particular interest to us, due to the purpose of this website, is underwater photography. This, of course, is the process of taking photographs while under water, usually done while scuba diving, but can also be performed while snorkeling or swimming.
Underwater imaging is considered an especially challenging area of photography, since it requires very specialized equipment and techniques to be successful. Despite these challenges, it offers the possibility of many exciting and rare photographic opportunities. Animals such as fish and marine mammals are the most common subjects, but photographers also pursue shipwrecks, submerged cave systems, underwater “landscapes”, and portraits of fellow divers.
