It’s fun. Just jump into the water, and float while you watch all of the fish.

My wife was scared the first time she went into the the “big ocean” but after about five minutes of gripping my hand in a vice she relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed her baptism. Now I can’t keep her out of the water.
    That says it all.
Remember you’re only using about three feet of ocean, the rest is a bonus

OK your a little scared it might be that with the rest of the family diving they might be expecting you just to jump in an get on with it. Start on a shoar dive not a boat dive so you find your own depth one you feel happy with the more dives you do the deeper you will want to go.Keep your breathing under control dive you own limits and enjoy, oh and remember there’s only 2 things kill a diver drink and panic.

Like you, I was pretty scared with my first Open Water dive. Once I was actually under, however, and I started to see fish, etc., I forgot completely that I was nervous. My incredibly loud breathing started to be a comforting noise, and the dive was over before I knew it! I went from truly terrified to running my own dive centre within a few years! It IS scary, because it’s something you haven’t experienced yet. Let us know how you get on, and I’ll bet that you’re having a great time before you know it!

    Trust your instructor?
he or she would not force you to do anything you did not want, or were not ready for. Tor me, it was the overcoming of fear that was such a rush. The fear of the unknown is just that. When you finish your open water dives, I bet you will smile for a week.
    Enjoy:)

First off, deep breath! You’re gonna be fine…just relax.

It’s normal to be scared when trying something new. The idea of diving out in the ocean is pretty intimidating. What exactly are you scared of? Is it the idea of getting lost? Just make sure to stay really close to your instructor. There’s nothing wrong with staying within an arms length of your instructor (that’s what I did on my first open water dive). Is it the idea of running into sharks? It’s rare as heck for a diver to even see a shark. Shark attacks on divers are practically nonexistent. Is it a fear that you’ll mess up one of the skills, such as mask clearing? For one thing, your instructor will be right there the whole time. If you don’t feel completely comfortable with a skill, ask for a little extra practice time before diving in the ocean. You can practice some of the skills while snorkeling in a pool, if you like.

Another thing that might help you is visualization. Every time you feel yourself getting all worked up about diving in the ocean, just close your eyes (if possible) and imagine the dive going perfectly well. Imagine that you’re able to perform all your skills wonderfully. Imagine the details about each skill. Imagine the beauty of the ocean, all the fish, and all the sights. It really does help!

    Hope this helps :)
