ABSOLUTELY!!!! I have seen dive trips and classes in major cities specifically for veterans. A PADI discover scuba course is the best way to see if it might be for you. If your physician okays you to dive- go for it. This is a very relaxing sport that can be as strenuous as you want it to be. You do not have to be an athlete (you do not have to be in peak physical shape).
If you don’t dive, you are missing the majority of what there is to see on this bubble of ours!
SCUBA diving is a great way to relax. It does require that you be in good shape and starting out can be somewhat expensive, depending on your money situation. To me, it’s worth it. When diving, your body experiences weightlessness, like in swimming. However, with the ability to breathe under water, the feeling is intensified. It’s like a natural high.
In addition to feeling weightless, you actually have time to “meditate” while enjoying the scenery. You really end up gaining an appreciation for nature, specifically the marine environment. You meet a lot of people, and most divers are nice and helpful.
If you need info or end up diving in California or Florida, let me know.
Scuba diving is more like a hobby than a sport
but you must be in a good shape in order to enjoy it.
If your looking to relax, you’ve found the perfect sport.
After your initial certification, just being able to dive, and float along enjoying the underwater sights is about as relaxing as you can get.
You can go as fast or as slow as you want. Slow is better, though.
If your not sure if you’ll like it, try a Discover Scuba course somewhere, to get a taste of it.
