How much weight should I put on my weight belt for scuba diving if I weigh 150 pounds?

I think it’s supposed to be around one fourth of my weight, but I’m not positive, and my PADI Manual doesn’t contain the information, nor does the PADI website. Thank you.

  1. I think 210 lbs is fair.

I was trying to be helpful GrayCat but you were ever more so. :)

  2. Amount of v weight in your belt greatly depends on many factors such as:
    1. Place where you dive (water temperature, saltinity etc)
    2. Your gear. What kind of BCD do you use.
    3. Exposure protection. In general the thicker wetsuit the more weight you need.
    4. Your own weight.
Put some trust in dive master/instructor. Do not afraid to ask questions. Fellow divers at the spot will almost always point you in right direction. Do not forget to write detailed dive log. Your own dive experience will be a good measure on what to wear for what dive and how much weight do you need.
    Good luck
PS: 210 lbs in advice above is pretty good weight to anchor a dive boat or to sink a baby elephant ;-)
