It’s been said that there are over a thousand shipwrecks in the Turks and Caicos Islands. So, yes, there are many awesome wrecks to dive. There is also awesome wall diving (a 6,000 ft. drop-off) less than a mile off shore of Providenciales. There is a wall off of Grand Turk, as well, but GT tourism is completely shut down for the foreseeable future. As far as shore diving, you could at Coral Gardens(but not sure how that fared in the storm, but I’d guess not too bad) or at Smith’s Reef. But your best bet for sure is to dive with a company. Try Cactus Voyager, Silver Deep or Big Blue. For more specific, up-to-date information, contact those companies at their websites, or visit the Turks and Caicos forum on tripadvisor.com. It’s a very active forum with very knowledgeable people.
But bottom line, you’ll have to stick with the main tourism island of Providenciales(and almost everything is already up and running now, so it should be just fine by the time you’re there in Nov.), maybe day trip it over to North or Middle Caicos, they weren’t hit too bad.
Oh, there’s awesome diving off of West Caicos, too. Usually lots of Hammerheads.
After the ravages of Hurricane Ike, you will no doubt wish to stay put in Provo. The diving in TCI is highly rated and there is a wide choice of diving tours, but I can’t give first hand information. http://www.divetravel.com/destinations/t…
Edit: Perhaps this newspaper will give you an indication of how things are. To assume everything will be up and running in a couple of months is extraordinarily optimistic. http://www.tcweeklynews.com/
Provo is on the whole fine. Beaches Resort has had to close, but they will be back in operation in November.
Scuba diving was/is primo in Turks and Caicos. But they were just hit with a Cat 4 hurricane. Not sure what kind of damage done for shore diving.
Best you get in touch with some of the dive companies. Here is a link with off shore diving and the names of Dive companieshttp://turksandcaicos-guide.info/activit…
The waters of Turks and Caicos are so clear and beautiful. I’m not a diver but a snorkeler and I couldn’t get over the marine life. Located on Provo is the 3rd largest coral reef but you need a boat to get out there.
Good Luck and enjoy)
