how do you regulate air pressure in your head while scuba diving?

i want to know how to regulate your head air pressure WITHOUT using the classic hold your nose and blow technique.

  1. Swallow, but not the water. Keeping your mouth closed, try to swallow. It works like pinching your nose.

  2. There are a few techniques although, they can be hard to master. A classic is to drop your jaw open slightly and move it back and forth. This opens the eustachian tubes and will equalize the pressure. Swallowing can produce the response in some people. You can also force your tongue against the roof of you mouth blocking airflow and try to exhale. You’re trying to open your eustachian tubes so, take a look at the anatomy and see what works for you.
    The more you dive the more elastic they tend to become and the response becomes automatic. I have been diving for years and my ears clear without me having to do anything or I may just not notice I’m doing anything.
