Can you wear just a swimsuit while scuba diving?

I am going on a trip to the British Virgin Islands and don’t want to get a wetsuit if i don’t have to. I would rather just dive in my swimsuit. Do I need a wetsuit??

I not to sure but the wet suits are made to keep you warm in the cold water. So it might be a good idea if you like being warm

I suggest you wear some outer clothing for protection. Lycra body suit or T-shirt and pants, you don’t have to buy a wet suit unless the water is too cold.

usually a dive suit is recommended because the bcd etc is rough on the skin. You dont have to have a wetsuit to scuba dive however.

It depends when you’re going, how deep, and for how long. In the summer in the Caribbean it’s OK in a swimsuit down to maybe 40′, but it can get a lot colder deeper down. In the winter and spring everyone wears a wetsuit.

Also think about sunburn, and get a rash vest if you’re not using a wetsuit. (They’re sold at surf shops.) A rash vest also keeps you noticeably warmer underwater, though it’s not as warm as a wetsuit. You can also get Cressi swimsuits made of thin wetsuit material.

I dive in a swimsuit all the time. If you are diving in the ocean the water is about the same temperature at the surface as it is at one hundred feet. I went down to one hundred feet in Florida in just my swimsuit and I never got cold. Personally I don’t like wetsuits so I never wear one unless it is really cold.
