Best underwater digital camera?

Hi ,I am looking to buy a digital camera( with video shooting features as well) mainly to be used for underwater photography during snorkeling ,diving etc.Can you recommend which one should we go for? Also,someone told me to buy a normal camera and just get an underwater casing for it-which option is better do you think? We are going for a trip of a lifetime and I would want my pictures to be great-not fuzzy and the video sounds not muffled.Any help much appreciated -thanks in advance :)

    I think you need a real underwater camera… they show an interesting one in this video, plus price doesnt seem really high

    we always use a disposable one like a fuji . works real well, but no sound sorry. usually about $10 USD

    Check out the new Pansonic DMC-TS2. 14 megapixel with wide angle lens and 5x zoom. Waterproof to 33 feet without a housing and there’s an optional housing if you want to go deeper. But deeper means a lighting system, and that adds a lot of cost and travel weight to your destination.
