Oregon Dead White Shark – Public Necropsy

Posted by DiveBuddy.com on September 30, 2009 In August we covered an accidental take of a Great White off the coast of Oregon. The attached video lead to some outrage within the shark community and has culminated in a rare public necropsy this week during its dissection at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center: "It is a shame that the shark became entangled in the ropes and died, but the specimen still has a great deal of scientific and educational value," said William Hanshumaker, the OSU center’s marine education specialist, who is coordinating the necropsy. "Top predators such as this are difficult to study and we don’t know a lot about where they migrate or breed. " Complete Story [ This is an external blog. Read complete blog here... ]...

Embedding Videos

Posted by DiveBuddy.com on September 30, 2009 Hi everyone. I have finally uploaded a few videos to the site since getting my Intova IC10 camera a few weeks ago. I wanted to share with all who do not know, how to embed a video to be able to watch it when a fellow Divebuddy wants to view your videos. 1. Go to the Quick Links drop down menu located in the upper right hand corner of the web page.2. Choose Add New Video, which will take you to the correct page.3. Choose a Video name. 4. Locate the video you want to share, for example a youtube video. There will be information on the right side of the video, URL and Embed. Copy the Embed code. 5. Paste the copied code info the Video Code field then Upload. This will give you an embedded video that appears when someone clicks on your video links, instead of a web address that has to be copied and pasted into your browser. It took me two times to post mine correctly! Enjoy...

Its getting colder!

Posted by DiveBuddy.com on September 30, 2009 For those of us that live in Ohio and the Great Lakes region know how the weather can be. You can sweat your @SS off one day and freeze to death within 24 hours. I think that Columbus has made its early departure from summer to winter, bypassing fall! Within a week it went from the low 80s to highs in the upper 40s.. Thats quite a difference. My buddy and I dove today at Circleville, a bit colder than it was last week! Lets see the bottom temp was 68 (not bad) and the ambient air temp was 49!! Being the brave (stubborn) diver that I am I wore my 2.5mm Cressi shortie and boots.. Nothing else. My buddy wore his 5mm Cressi full, boots, hood and gloves. I must say that I did not get chilled until about 40 minutes of mapping the ambulance for our Divemaster training. Getting out was quite brisk, with my uncovered flesh turning a bright red (pre-frostbite?), letting up after drying off and getting our long pants and jackets on. It is obvious that the warm diving season is coming to a close so to continue we must don the heavier apparel. I would say break out the liquid courage but that impairs your judgement, haha.I have also determined by now that I will not take someone’s word that it is cold or "you need at least a 7mm.." I will judge for myself and I find that usually they were wrong. Or, it could be due to the fact that I have a bit more natural insulation than the others. :)...
